Swine Research Manager
The Swine Research Manager will work closely with the Head of Research and our swine nutrition team and interact directly with all members of our research, marketing, and product development teams. This position will hold primary responsibility for supervision and coordination of all aspects of past, current, and future swine research projects. Research supervision and coordination will comprise of internal and external projects for nursery, finishing, and sow research opportunities. This full-time position will be based at our Corporate Headquarters in Fairmont, MN.

Research Leadership:
- Demonstrate scientific and technical leadership via extensive knowledge of up-to-date swine nutrition-related research and the industry achievements and needs
- Propose trial ideas/hypotheses to build businesses cases for the proposed in-vitro and in-vivo tests/trials
- Contribute ideas toward new product development and continuous improvement of existing nutrition solutions
Research Farm Management:
- Generate and deploy Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure standardized, high quality Research Farm Management in accordance with the currently accepted Best Practices (all areas of the Farm Operations)
- Enforce, audit, and review, as needed, the execution of the Research Farm Operational SOPs
- Manage Research Farm Managers to ensure correct SOP and trial conduct
- Supervise the Research Farm personnel training to ensure all Research Farm Management SOPs animal trial protocols and requirements are followed
- Ensure the standardized and traceable data management (Research Farm Operations and animal trials)
Research Planning:
- Assist with determining research objectives with the Head of Research and Swine Nutrition Team
- Generate a trial protocol to meet the commercial and scientific expectations of each trial
- Communicate with purchasing, production and logistics for upcoming trial needs
Research Coordination:
- Formulate efficient diets to meet treatment expectations and ensure they are set up properly for production
- Calculate diet requirements for each treatment to aid in coordination of ingredient procurement requirements
- Coordinate labeling, production & logistics of trial product
- Ensure proper data is being recorded and collected according to the trial protocol
Research Follow-Up:
- Collect, summarize, and provide recommendations for all data collected during the trial
- Generate a standard trial summary report to be shared and critiqued by the Nutrition Team
- Support marketing with trial data as approved by the Head of Research and Nutrition Team
Team Management:
- Manage swine research team members at the Swine Research Facility
Other Tasks:
- This list is not all inclusive. Other duties may be required based on need of the research team, nutrition team, and company.
Candidate Should Have:
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Animal Science/Swine Nutrition. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D.
- Experience in planning and conducting research trials and demonstrate an understanding of the relationships involved in research trials
- Experience in the swine industry preferred
- Ability to multitask, be detail-oriented and a natural organizer
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
- Ability to prioritize workload, to work independently, and in a team
- Ability to use basic computer programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Ability to use Brill and Concept 5 formulation programs preferred but not mandatory
- Must be able to work 40 hours per week
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be willing and able to travel
Compensation Rage:
- $70,000 – $100,000
Reports To: Dr. Kristy Dorton, Head of Research
